“I have a Goal” said a person called Jagannath who was writing this blog…. and ahem i’m the same person… after such a loong period of hibernation (read procrastination) i wanted to wake up… hehe..
so will just du a small post for now… i had an idea in my mind for his post…. by the time i started typing, i forgot what it is ![]()
till i get it back will du some blabbering for a while. ah.. got it. so no need for the blabbering part, lucky you.
In my first Ethics class(this semester of course ;)) our sir asked a question “What is your Goal in life ?’ pretty much everyone seems to be interested in that these days. everyone was given a chance to tell theirs. As usual I told “Sir, I want to start my own company in 5 years from now” dunno for how many years i was telling the same :P…. ( i can hear someone saying ‘dai okka mokka aramichittiya’… but friends hehe)
I personally have a very mixed opinion on this Goal stuff. thats because of the variety of reading i have done. so you ask what books i have read in these lines. hmmm here goes some of them: 7 Habits of highly effective people, First things first, The One Minute Manager, You Can Win By Shiv Khera, Daniel Pena - Your First 100 Million, Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life - A Kick-Butt Approach to a Better Life.
and by now some of you wud have closed your browser window and continued orkutting…
but i will continue mokkai..
after some years of experience… i have learnt that there are two kinds of successful people…
one who have worked hard/smart/intelligent watever and attained success, money in their field
and the other kind are the people who have told others how to be successful and have attained success thru selling the books and videos
may be an amateurish opinion.. but most of the books that i have stated above are nothing but just common sense.
One exceptions is ‘The One minute manager’ which gives a good way/method for effective management.
the book written by Daniel Pena gives a glimpse of how the real business world is out there.. but i dont agree with him all the way.. many of his ideas punches directly in the face of Ethical values. hmmm who cares he says
and not to say wat i’m doing now is in direct contradiction to what is said in the last book “Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life - A Kick-Butt Approach to a Better Life”… hehehehe…
when i was a fresher in college my thought process was soo different… i thought stephen covey is god and the 7 habits … book was bible… now i feel that its just another personality development book on the self… hmm may be thats life…
one more thing i’ve learnt about Goal Setting is to set SMART goals and put them in writing: S - Specific, M - Measurable, A - Achievable, R - Realistic and T - Timebound ….. phew i remember them haha.. deciding wats specific, wats the limit, wat can be achieved, wats realistic and giving it a timeframe are the common problems that everyone face. so wats the big deal huh!!..
but there is an age old saying “Aim for the stars, atleast you will land on the tree” as far of my life is concerned it has been true till date…
some land on the mountains, and bad some just fall down
The above discussion was my thought process when i was in that ethics class… suddenly one guy said he ‘wants 1 crore before he is 30′… hehe nice goal… another said he wants to be an ‘ethical person’ just to kalaachify our sir.. but poor creature that plan backfired… now he gets all the questions asked in the class….. =))
so friends come on go and set some goals… atleast when u r grandchildren ask u can say ‘i wanted to be so and so…. and/but i am so and so’ ![]()
which is more sensible than ‘i just became what i am’ haha…
seri innikku ivvalo mokkai pothum…. will post again some interesting stuff (?)….

Enterpreunership is sadly an oft forgotten virtue particularly in South India
